What goes on your body goes in your body. Something I always remember when bringing products into my home. And that includes products we use on our floors! It may seem trivial, but using chemical-filled products on your floors still impacts the air quality in your home and goes into our bodies from walking on it. And that is especially harmful for littles and furry friends! So I am sharing the products I use to clean my floors, with several options but minimal supplies needed.
What I use to mop my floors
I love the scent of lemongrass on my floors... to me, it is synonymous with fresh, clean floors! So here are a couple ways I like to clean my floors depending on how much time I have.
Conventional mop:
2 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner
1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar
3-5 drops of lemongrass essential oil
fill the bucket halfway with warm water
As the water gets dirty, I will replace this solution with a fresh mix! Depending on how big the area is you are cleaning, you may have to refill this recipe. You will love this non-toxic recipe for your floors, they will smell so fresh and feel so clean!
O-Cedar Spray mop:
2 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner
1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar
a few drops of Purification essential oil blend
top with water
I love how easy this mop is to give the floors a quick cleaning! And how you can get a few of the mop pads to reduce the amount of times needed to clean them. Even though it is a quick clean, my floors still feel amazing. Plus they are so reasonably priced, here is where you can get the mop and backup cleaning pads!
Carpet Refresh Powder
The easiest recipe! Just two ingredients. Baking soda and essential oils. And using this recipe helps you get rid of yet another harmful product, those fragrance & chemical-filled carpet refreshers.
Simply fill a mason jar (or other airtight container, preferably glass) almost full with baking soda. Add about 10 drops of essential oils and shake. Let it sit for an hour so that the oils infuse into the baking soda.
To use: sprinkle a generous amount onto your carpet and let it sit at least 30 minutes. Sometimes I will let it sit for an hour! Then vacuum it up. So easy and it definitely makes a difference on our carpet, especially having dogs.
One mason jar is typically one use for me. But I think it's best to make this recipe as you use it, or add a couple drops essential oil to give it another boost of scent if it's been sitting a while.
Here are some super refreshing oil combinations:
- citrus fresh & lavender
- purification & lemon
- eucalyptus & citrus fresh
Spot Cleaner
If you have dogs, then you know. Still gotta love them! But I use this super simple carpet spot cleaner recipe to clean up those incidents.
+ 2-3 caps of Thieves Household Cleaner (stronger than my typical all purpose cleaner)
+ 15 drops Lemon EO to help remove stain
+ 15 drops Eucalyptus EO to help remove odor and deter future incidents
+ Top with distilled water in a 16 oz glass spray bottle
You could also add some baking soda, distilled white vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide, but I feel this does the trick! Spray the area and let it sit a minute, then soak or wipe up the affected area.
Using a carpet cleaning machine
My husband came up with this recipe, which makes me super proud! It has done a really great job at cleaning our carpets and making them smell so fresh! We use this mix in a big carpet cleaning machine; we have the Bissel ProHeat 2X.
In the water tank:
2-3 cupfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
1/2 cup - 3/4 cup White Distilled Vinegar
8 drops lemongrass essential oil
Top with warm water
Pretty much the same recipe we use for mopping, but just in a carpet cleaner! That's how simple it can be to clean your floors with Thieves cleaner. It can just be used so many ways. And of course, as the water becomes dirty, we swap it out for a fresh batch.
Almost all of these recipes contain Thieves Household Cleaner and that is because it is pure magic. One bottle of this concentrated cleaner does SO MUCH.
